Escher GuneWardena developed the design of this 10,000 s.f. showroom to relate to the aesthetics and philosophy of the well known qualities of Woven's contemporary, antique, and limited edition hand-woven rugs.  Conjuring the atmosphere of the historic trading venues of the international rug market, the new space carefully manipulates light and natural materials to enhance the experience of viewing the rug collection.  A series of strategically placed vertical planes provides a background for the rugs, while guiding the visitor though the entire 120-foot length of the showroom space.  Additional sliding panels of birch plywood provide further exhibition area along with freestanding steel totems for sample display. Large window openings admit natural light and garden views at select moments in an environment limited to three materials, concrete, wood and burnished steel.
